Job Hunting is the New Tinder!

Hello Everybody!
Welcome back to You Too Can Be Jobless! As I continue down the road of unemployment, I began to notice repetitive things that continued to happen, not only during the applying stage, but also (if you're lucky!! ) the interview stage, as well. What may that be, you ask??

HOW SIMILAR JOB HUNTING IS TO TINDER!

Now if you do not know what Tinder is, please enjoy this definition via Wikapedia-
Tinder is a location-based social search mobile app that facilitates communication between mutually interested users, allowing matched users to chat. Specifically for matchmaking!

So sit back and enjoy my comparisons to how the act of job hunting is just the same as trying to find your one true love.

1. THE SEARCH

With Tinder, you can spend hours at a time swiping left or right, hoping you match with someone who interests you. Similar in job hunting, you can spend hours searching job sites, Linkedin etc. hoping to find a job that fits your skill sets and experience.
2. MAKING THE MATCH
With Tinder, when you find someone who makes your heart beat faster, you take the plunge and swipe right. The only way you can match with that person and begin chatting though is if they swipe right on you too.
Doesn't this sounds familiar?? Once you find a job you can imagine yourself going to everyday, you have to apply. Just because you apply does not mean that "imaginary company" is going to view your profile/resume and swipe right on you, or in the job hunting process- contact you for an interview.

3. THE FIRST MEETING
If you are lucky enough to match, wether it be on Tinder or in the job hunting world, the next step is usually setting up a time to meet. This is where it gets fun, or terrible, depending on how prepared you are to impress the other party. During the first date/ interview all you are trying to do is show them how amazing you are! So tell me a little bit about yourself? Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?  You also usually do a little bit of background research to try and find some similarities between you and your date/interviewer.
Interviews and first dates can either go great or horribly wrong. Regardless, they always say the same thing- "I'll be in touch"

4. THE FOLLOW UP
This can go two ways- one, they like you and you continue dating, or in the job world, you interview a few more times until you get the job, or two you get Denied!
I want to focus on the second one, because as a person who is unemployed, I go through this a lot.
After the interview, you replay it in your head. You think you did a good job. They seemed to like you, and they also said they would be in touch. So why haven't they emailed or called you? Sounds a lot like the cycle of dating, huh? Unfortunately, this usually means the company is just not that into you.

4 1/2. THE MESSAGE
Now usually in dating and in job hunting, if they aren't interested in moving forward, 99% of the time you will never hear anything from them. However, on very small occasions (or if your one of those people who follows up with them) you will get the typically, scripted response. * This is an example and may not show every scenario*

Date: Thanks for your message. I had a really great time Friday and I think you are really nice, but I just think it would be better if we stayed friends.

Job: Thank you for following up. Though we thought you were a strong candidate for the position, we ultimately decided to go with someone who’s skills were a better fit for what we were looking for.

5. THE REJECTION
This is a step many people will experience over and over again. With tinder/dating and looking for a job, you will constantly think you found the one, only to find out you aren't the one for them.
Don't take it personally though, and keep swiping right!

Eventually, you will find someone who will make you happy, or a job that makes you feel fulfilled.

Keep your chin up!
